If I’m totally honest, Today I wasn’t expecting much and I didn’t get much. Its a shame that even though it was the last ever Macworld, they didn’t have anything to go out on a bang with. I’m not blaming Apple! And at the end of the day they can only develop what they want to develop and have time to release. Anyway, enough rambling! Let’s get to the real stuff!
iLife 09
Phil said that he had three things for us so this was one. iPhoto got a few new features and some well needed features too. iPhoto got three main new features. Faces and Places. Faces is a sort of ‘facebook tag’ feature, but with a lovely bit of Apple ingenuity sprinkled on top. It automatically recognizes faces (OMG FACE RECOGNITION!?) and tags them. You can then browse photo’s by who’s in them or the other way round. Places is the same but for… Places? It knows where the pic was taken via Geotag, That’s if your camera does that, if you don’t you have to rather ’suckily’ fill in where you took it manually.
Seen as everyone was moaning before about iMovie 08 and it’s totally new way of thinking, Apple went back and put all the old features back in! It’s got some pretty swish titles and transition effects. You can also add in maps from where you’ve shot the film. It sort of a 3D map but has like a really good globe feature and stuff like that, It’s rather swish. You can also overlap audio and all the stuff you couldnt do in iMovie 08, You can in 09!
iWork was updated which I found completly boring and didn’t take many notes or live blogging at all! They did however talk about iWork.com which is a Google Doc’s rival. Users can upload documents, get feedback, post notes, and download the document. Only in beta at the moment, And apparently free to sign up! But it’s becoming a paid service soon (Bad Times)
OMGWTFBBQ! HARDWARE?!
We were all waiting on it and Phil delivered! The brand new MacBook Pro 17″. It’s rather tasty if I do say so. What do you get for your £1,949.00? Well a 2.66GHz Processor, 4GB of Ram (Which can be upgraded to a crazy 8GB!), a 320GB Hard Drive and the new 8 Hour battery that Apple banged on about in the keynote. It all got very technical and stupidly geeky! Basically as I said in the live blog, 8Hours Of Battery on one charge, plus you can charge it up to 1000 times before it needs replacing! It’s very nice! Shame they haven’t built it into the previous 15″ Pro’s. Odd move but its just so your enticed into buying the bigger and more expensive model
And Finally...
The big headline from this years keynotes is that iTunes is going DRM Free. 8 Million tracks are already DRM free and the whole iTunes collection goes DRM free in spring. Although it’s a extra 20p more if you want your track DRM free. Oh Apple, You’ll never learn! The thing is, If I want cheaper DRM Free Tunes there are plenty of sites to go to and Apple needs to wise up a bit I think!
